An alert of significance has been issued to numerous Gmail users, urging attention to those who are uncomfortable with the idea of artificial intelligence quickly scanning their emails. This cautionary message was shared online by Lori Greiner, a well-known American TV personality and entrepreneur.

Over the weekend, the star of Shark Tank took to Instagram to share crucial information for Gmail account holders. She emphasized the importance of spreading the word among friends and family to ensure their safety and vigilance.

The concern arises from Google’s recent implementation of AI smart features within Gmail, aimed at enhancing user experience through smart searches, contextual replies, and email summaries. While Google assures that it does not read messages for personal use, Lori Greiner expressed her apprehensions despite this assurance.

In her Instagram post, the celebrity emphasized the need to heed the warning, stating that Google has allowed AI to scan all emails, including sensitive information like financial documents, tax details, and personal conversations, without users’ awareness.

For those worried about this situation, there is a simple solution to disable this setting. Greiner reassured her followers that it only takes 30 seconds to turn off this feature.

To deactivate AI in Gmail, users can follow these steps:

– Access Settings and click on “see all settings.”
– Scroll down to locate “Smart features.”
– Disable smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet to prevent Google from scanning messages.
– Additionally, uncheck boxes for Workspace and other products under “Manage Workspace Smart Features” to further restrict data usage for AI.

Google maintains that personal data remains secure and inaccessible to its team or third parties. The tech giant clarified that foundational AI models, including Gemini, are not trained on personal emails and any access granted to Gemini in Gmail is for specific tasks only, ensuring inbox privacy.

Ultimately, if the idea of AI scanning emails is unsettling, users may consider deselecting the smart feature in Gmail settings to align with their preferences.
