The Kremlin issued a stark warning of a potential “nuclear apocalypse” following a display of strength by Russian strategic bombers over the northern seas near Britain. The Tu-95MS aircraft were captured in footage during their more than seven-hour mission over the Barents and Norwegian Seas.
According to the Russian defense ministry, NATO fighters were scrambled to intercept and monitor the sizable warplanes, commonly referred to as “Bears.” Accompanied by Sukhoi Su-30SM fighters, the bombers engaged in aerial refueling while being shadowed by foreign fighter aircraft along various sections of their flight route.
The Norwegian Sea, located directly north of the UK’s Shetland Islands between Norway and Iceland, served as the backdrop for the bombers’ “routine patrol.” This demonstration coincided with Dmitry Medvedev, a close ally of Vladimir Putin, raising concerns about the looming threat of a global “nuclear apocalypse.”
In a chilling address to Russian schoolchildren, the Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council emphasized the existential nature of the current conflict with the Western world, stating, “Our conflict today is a matter of existence, and unfortunately, I have no illusions about what lies ahead.”
