Crown Prince Haakon of Norway has provided an update on his wife’s declining health amid challenging times for the Norwegian Royal Family.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit is battling pulmonary fibrosis, a condition causing progressive lung scarring and breathing difficulties with no known cure. The Crown Prince expressed concern over her worsening health, stating that she has deteriorated significantly and relies on daily oxygen support, which offers limited relief.
Diagnosed in 2018, the Crown Princess has scaled back her royal duties due to her illness and has been spotted wearing an oxygen mask during recent public appearances. In a recent development, it was disclosed that she might require a lung transplant.
Meanwhile, the Princess’s son, Marius Borg Høiby, faced a trial involving 32 charges, including alleged serious offenses. Following the trial’s conclusion in March, Høiby awaits sentencing in an Oslo prison. His request to be moved to a royal residence was denied by the court.
Reports revealed that Høiby petitioned to complete his remand at the royal estate of Skaugum, citing his mother’s health challenges. Additionally, it emerged during the trial that Crown Princess Mette-Marit had a past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, leading her to express regret for the friendship and acknowledge being misled by Epstein.
Mette-Marit emphasized her lack of awareness of Epstein’s criminal history during their interaction, expressing deep remorse for the situation. She highlighted the importance of taking responsibility for not scrutinizing Epstein’s background more thoroughly and extended sympathy to the victims of his actions.
