A former police officer has been revealed as a rapist who committed multiple sexual assaults and attempted murders against women during a span of at least 14 years. PC Alan Greer, known as “Police Scotland’s Wayne Couzens,” tragically took his own life in May while under suspension pending an investigation into his crimes.
An investigation by BBC Disclosure has uncovered that Greer targeted eight more victims, including five sex workers, while off duty. Comparisons have been drawn between Greer and Wayne Couzens, who infamously murdered Sarah Everard in London in 2021. Couzens is currently serving a life sentence for his heinous crimes.
Greer’s criminal activities first surfaced in late 2025 when a woman reported a rape from 2012, leading to an inquiry by Police Scotland’s anti-corruption unit. Detectives discovered that Greer had inappropriately monitored the case updates without valid reasons. Further evidence was found when Greer searched police records related to an incident involving a sex worker in February of this year.
Following Greer’s arrest in April for the 2012 rape case, a search of his residence uncovered incriminating evidence on electronic devices. Despite his death, Police Scotland revealed his suspension and ongoing investigation internally. Colleagues and family of Greer were reportedly unaware of his dark criminal activities.
Assistant Chief Constable Lynn Ratcliff, overseeing the investigation, described Greer’s actions as “truly shocking” and emphasized the bravery of the initial victim who came forward, leading to the identification of additional victims. While acknowledging the seriousness of the case, Ratcliff dismissed comparisons to Couzens and assured that there was no evidence of overlooked warning signs.
As the investigation progresses, authorities encourage anyone who may have been a victim of Greer to come forward. The vetting process for police officers has evolved since Greer’s entry in 2009, ensuring stricter scrutiny to prevent similar incidents in the future.
