A tragic incident occurred when a six-year-old girl lost her life in a high-speed collision involving a Florida police officer who was allegedly driving at 104mph in a 50mph zone. The officer, Zachary Krug, 25, was said to be running late for his shift at the Temple Terrace Police Department on April 15.

Witnesses reported that Krug, driving an unmarked vehicle, activated his lights at a red light and accelerated to 104 mph, eventually colliding with a car driven by Samantha Sakowski, who was completing Uber Eats deliveries with her three children onboard. Despite Krug hitting the brakes upon spotting Sakowski’s vehicle, the impact occurred at around 74 mph, resulting in severe injuries to Sakowski and her children.

Tragically, Sakowski’s 6-year-old daughter, Leila, did not survive the collision, while her other children suffered serious injuries. Dash camera footage presented at a bond hearing showed Krug accelerating prior to the crash, with his defense arguing that he was pursuing another speeding motorist while on duty.

However, State Attorney Suzy Lopez refuted this claim, stating there was no evidence supporting Krug’s pursuit of another vehicle. Lopez expressed dismay at the officer’s actions, emphasizing that his choices led to the tragic death of a young girl and endangered other lives on the road.

A GoFundMe page set up by the victims’ family has raised over $19,000 to support the medical expenses of Sakowski and her children. The page revealed that one of Sakowski’s children was in a medically induced coma with severe injuries, while updates indicated that the other children were making progress in their recovery.

Krug was dismissed from his position at the Temple Terrace Police Department and taken into custody. He posted a $90,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 13. Supporters can contribute to the victims’ GoFundMe page to aid in their recovery journey.
