Ferrari has been fined £25,512 following an incident at the Belgian Grand Prix where Lewis Hamilton accidentally collided with a crew member in the pit lane. During a pit stop at Spa-Francorchamps, Hamilton was given the green light to resume racing but stopped shortly after, having hit a crew member with his car. Although the crew member was not seriously injured, Hamilton expressed concern as he recalled a similar incident involving Kimi Raikkonen in Bahrain.
After the race, Hamilton explained that he followed the green light signal without noticing the crew member in his path. Ferrari was penalized by the FIA, with a fine of €30,000 imposed, part of which is suspended pending good conduct and a detailed incident report submission by Ferrari within 14 days.
The Stewards’ inquiry revealed that the crew member was unharmed despite falling when the car moved forward. Ferrari accepted responsibility for the unsafe release of Car 44 and attributed the incident to miscommunication and the crew member’s failure to see the green light. The team committed to reviewing their pit stop protocols to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in the future.
