Three individuals have lost their lives in a tragic collision on the A1 in Northumberland. The incident occurred between Denwick and South Charlton, involving a silver Volkswagen Polo and a red Hyundai i20. The driver and passenger of the Hyundai, both elderly, were pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, a passenger from the Polo also died, while the driver sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.
Authorities have notified the next of kin of the deceased in the VW Polo and are providing them with specialized support. The road was temporarily closed for approximately seven hours following the accident but has since reopened.
