Hopeful England supporters are anticipated to consume around 10 million additional pints during Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final showdown against Argentina. Following the impressive victory over Mexico and the intense quarter-final match against Norway, the nation is on edge as they gear up for Thomas Tuchel and the team’s pivotal game of the tournament. It is projected that approximately 26.2 million viewers will tune in to witness England’s high-stakes clash with Argentina, as per the latest forecasts from discount website VoucherCodes.

Numerous fans are expected to gather at pubs, bars, and fan zones to witness the excitement with friends, family, and fellow supporters, with some venues expected to reach full capacity. VoucherCodes estimates that a record-breaking seven million fans will cheer on the Three Lions in hospitality establishments, with an estimated consumption of 9.7 million pints. This surge is predicted to generate a £60.5 million increase in hospitality sales from beverages alone, with an additional £37.8 million allocated for food.

The British Beer and Pub Association has also provided estimates, suggesting that pubs alone could serve an additional six million pints during the game. This surge would represent a substantial 75% increase in sales compared to an average Wednesday in July. Emma McClarkin, the BBPA chief executive, expressed optimism about the potential sales boost and emphasized the unifying effect of the national team’s success on communities across the country.

England’s recent triumph over Norway, propelled by Jude Bellingham’s standout performance, led to a 23% rise in spending at pubs and bars, according to payment provider Dojo. The anticipation and excitement during the match resulted in a significant uptick in transactions, with a notable spike recorded both before extra time and after the final whistle.

With the upcoming game scheduled for 8 pm, England’s earliest kick-off time in the tournament, an estimated 19.2 million viewers are expected to watch the match from home or in gatherings with friends. VoucherCodes predicts a spending spree of £357 million across supermarkets and other retail outlets, with a significant portion allocated to food and beverages, sportswear, and electronic items.

Clair Hughes, a savings expert at VoucherCodes, highlighted the escalating enthusiasm among fans as England approaches a potential World Cup victory. The heightened excitement surrounding the tournament has driven increased consumer spending, reflecting the widespread engagement with one of the summer’s premier sporting events.
