A group of diners is facing accusations of leaving a restaurant in Valencia, Spain, without settling a bill totaling €402.80 (£347.50). The incident took place at Mar d’Amura restaurant, where 17 individuals reportedly left without paying, evading notice from the staff by departing discreetly one by one.
Following the dine-and-dash, one of the diners criticized the restaurant sharply, labeling it as a “terrible place” with subpar food and service, describing it as one of the worst dining experiences ever.
In response to the incident, Mar d’Amura’s management addressed the situation publicly after it gained attention on social media. The restaurant owner thanked the diner for their feedback, highlighting that the group left without settling their bill and detailing instances where they rejected desserts and disputed the quality of their meals.
Emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, the owner stated that the unpaid bill exceeded €350, transitioning from a minor issue to theft. He also mentioned the intention to involve the authorities, pointing out the presence of security cameras and the plan to file a police report.
The incident sparked outrage among social media users, with many condemning the actions of the dine-and-dashers. Despite initial concerns, it was later reported that Mar d’Amura received payment via a Spanish payment service following the public exposure of the incident.
In a similar occurrence in the UK, a couple allegedly ran out on a £231.30 bill at The Halfway House in Brentwood, Essex, after consuming a substantial meal and drinks. However, the couple was captured on CCTV, leading to police involvement and one of the individuals returning to settle part of the bill.
The general manager of The Halfway House expressed uncertainty regarding the couple’s whereabouts after the incident, awaiting the remaining payment. The woman involved paid her share after seeing the incident on social media, but the man’s contribution remained outstanding.
