A Florida deputy’s effort to rescue a woman from a fatal alligator attack was captured in bodycam footage. The victim, identified as Brittany Clark, 31, was mauled by an alligator while swimming in the Econlockhatchee River at Little Big Econ State Forest near Orlando. The harrowing clip shows the deputy rushing to the riverbank where Clark was lying injured, applying a tourniquet in an attempt to save her.
Clark’s boyfriend, Chance Allison, made a distress call to emergency services, describing the severity of her injuries as both arms dislocated and one completely severed. Amid screams and cries, he struggled to free her from the alligator’s grip, emphasizing the urgent need for medical assistance due to significant blood loss.
Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission revealed that the attack occurred in shallow water and appeared to be accidental. Tragically, despite efforts to save her, Clark succumbed to her injuries while en route to the hospital. The authorities euthanized two alligators found in the river for further investigation.
Allison expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Clark, describing her as a remarkable and compassionate individual who did not deserve such a tragic end. The FWC highlighted that fatal alligator attacks are rare in Florida, with an average of eight unprovoked incidents annually since 1948 in a state home to approximately 1.3 million alligators.
