The fire incident, described as the deadliest in recent times in the Thai capital, has led to the recovery of 27 bodies according to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Additionally, 22 individuals are in critical condition after the blaze at the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao bar.
Witnesses observed a group outside the bar moments before thick smoke suddenly emerged from the entrance, followed by intense flames as people scrambled to escape. Amid the chaos, individuals were seen fleeing through the doors amidst the raging fire, with many shouting in panic. The harrowing scene continued for several minutes as thick smoke overtook the flames.
In a brave attempt to combat the fire, a man used a fire extinguisher before the arrival of emergency services. Images captured patrons trying to flee as flames burst from the bar’s front door, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky.
The aftermath revealed charred furniture inside the bar as emergency services surveyed the damage. Reports indicate that many sought refuge in bathrooms at the back of the bar during the fire outbreak, where several casualties were discovered.
Authorities reported 63 injuries from the blaze, with initial findings suggesting a potential short circuit in an air conditioner as the cause. The Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao venue, known for live music in northern Bangkok, attracted a crowd mainly comprising Thai nationals aged 25 to 50.
