In a surprising turn of events, the village cricket community is abuzz with a cheating scandal involving a fielder allegedly creating a false sound by clicking his fingers to imitate the ball hitting the bat.
Video evidence suggests that a slip fielder for Saltburn 2nd XI snapped his fingers just before the wicketkeeper took a catch, leaving the batsman bewildered by the decision.
Following the circulation of the clip, accusations surfaced that the fielder deceived the umpire into believing the batter had made contact with the ball.
The incident occurred during a match in the North Yorkshire and South Durham League (NYSDL) between Saltburn 2nd XI and Norton 2nd XI, where Saltburn emerged victorious by a significant 159-run margin.
Ben Mummery, who posted the footage on social media, expressed his satisfaction that the issue, dubbed “Click-gate,” was gaining attention and urged for severe consequences, stating, “It’s not cricket.”
Moreover, Rory Cotterill, who led Middlesbrough CC’s 2nd XI in a match against Saltburn, claimed a similar occurrence took place in their game and shared a video online showing the same player clicking his fingers.
The NYSDL confirmed receiving a formal complaint regarding the game and assured that a thorough investigation was underway, refraining from further comment until the process concludes.
