A tragic incident occurred last night on the A40 between the Abergwili and PC World roundabouts near Carmarthen in South Wales, involving a pedestrian and multiple vehicles, including a police car. Initial reports indicated concerns for the pedestrian’s safety on the road, followed by reports of several vehicles colliding with the pedestrian before a police car also struck them upon arrival.
Regrettably, the pedestrian did not survive the collision, and authorities are working to identify the individual and notify their next of kin. The Carmarthen, Whitland, and St Clears Police have closed the section of the A40 between the roundabouts for an extended period while investigations continue, urging motorists to seek alternative routes.
In response to the incident involving the police car, the force has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) for independent oversight. No arrests have been made so far, and the force refrained from additional comments pending the completion of the IOPC assessment.
Authorities are appealing for witnesses and information regarding the crash, particularly urging motorists with dash cams who were on the A40 at the time to come forward with any footage that may assist the investigation.
