Temperatures are expected to rise above 30C this week in parts of Britain as another heatwave approaches.

While wetter weather is anticipated across the country today, the Met Office predicts a brief spell of rain, with temperatures set to soar back to 29C by Tuesday afternoon and reach a scorching 32C on Wednesday in the southeast. Meanwhile, temperatures are forecasted to peak at 26C in Wales, the Midlands, and the north of England.

This marks the fourth heatwave of the summer, coinciding with reservoirs and rivers hitting worryingly low levels, leading to drought warnings and hosepipe bans by water companies.

In contrast, highs of 22C are expected in the Borders and Scotland this week, where cloudy and windier conditions are likely to prevail.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Dan Suri, stated that after a prolonged period of hot and dry weather, some regions will experience a temporary change with rain and showers. However, many areas, especially in southern England, are expected to remain dry with temperatures quickly rising again next week.

Cooler air from the North Atlantic is anticipated to cause a drop in temperatures towards the weekend, with some rain expected. Water safety experts are warning of increased risks due to warm temperatures and breezy conditions, especially for those venturing onto the water.

In response to drowning incidents in open water, The Mirror has launched the Save Lives For Sam water safety campaign, urging urgent action such as mandatory water safety lessons in schools and a public awareness drive.

Lee Pooley, Head of Safety at Paddle UK, emphasized the dangers of offshore winds, highlighting that calm-looking waters near the shore can quickly turn treacherous, leading to emergencies. It is advised to check weather and wind conditions before heading out, especially if winds are blowing away from the shore.
