An elderly man from Britain, known for his bowls-playing skills, recently spoke out about his ordeal as he was falsely accused of being involved in international drug smuggling. William Eastment, nicknamed “Billy Boy,” shared his story after being caught in a complex scam that led to his imprisonment in Chile. The 80-year-old, eager to return home, expressed his simple desires of enjoying a cup of tea with milk, a roast chicken dinner, and recovering his bus pass.
Eastment’s troubles began when he was lured by the promise of a £7.85 million inheritance, only to find himself embroiled in a drug trafficking scheme orchestrated by criminals. Despite his innocence, he was found with over 5kg of methamphetamine in his luggage at Santiago Airport after traveling from Mexico.
Initially suspected of being a drug courier, Eastment faced the grim prospect of spending his remaining years in a harsh South American prison. However, thorough examination of his devices revealed the elaborate deception, prompting authorities to drop the charges against him.
Now on the brink of returning to his modest home in Milborne Port, Somerset, Eastment faces challenges such as lost belongings and financial constraints. Despite the harrowing experience, he eagerly anticipates reuniting with his familiar surroundings and indulging in a simple yet cherished routine.
The British Embassy has facilitated his repatriation, ensuring his essential needs are met. With a newfound appreciation for the comforts of home, Eastment looks forward to leaving his turbulent past behind and embracing the tranquility of his ordinary life once more.
