Residents of a UK village were startled by another earthquake, the second in less than a month, as they described feeling a significant thud resembling a distant explosion. The tremor, measuring 2.2 magnitude, occurred in Silverdale, Lancashire, at 9:35 pm on Saturday night, as confirmed by the British Geological Survey (BGS).
Locals in areas like Grange-over-Sands and Bolton-le-Sands reported experiencing a pronounced thud and noise akin to an explosion. This event follows a 2.3-magnitude earthquake on May 13 at the same location and a smaller 0.4-magnitude tremor on April 12.
Since the close of 2025, multiple earthquakes have impacted the region, including two in December and additional occurrences in February and March this year, as detailed by Lancashire Live. Social media buzzed with reactions after the recent tremor, with one resident asking, “Another earthquake just happened?”
The BGS posted on Facebook regarding the seismic activity in Silverdale, Lancashire, noting that the quake was felt across the Morecambe Bay area, with witnesses describing it as a significant thud, resembling a distant explosion. Online comments reflected the shock and impact felt by residents, with various individuals sharing their experiences of the event in different parts of the village.
The frequency of earthquakes in the area has led to some residents humorously speculating that they might be the earthquake center of the UK.
