A private aircraft carrying eight individuals crashed in a remote area close to a radar installation in western Alaska on Thursday, as confirmed by a federal official. Clint Johnson, overseeing the Alaska division of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, disclosed that the plane was occupied by two pilots and six passengers, with no immediate information on their condition.
Departing from Anchorage, the aircraft is believed to have gone down early Thursday afternoon while approaching Cape Newenham, Johnson stated. He emphasized that the details provided at this stage are preliminary.
In response to a notification of an “aircraft incident” near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site, the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center initiated a search and rescue operation. They assured that further updates would be shared as information unfolded and refrained from addressing inquiries.
