“Armand Duplantis Sets Meet Record at Diamond League Pole Vault”

After a break that lasted a month, including the Commonwealth Games, the Diamond League track and field series resumed today with a unique men’s pole vault competition in Lausanne, Switzerland. Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time world champion, set a meet record by clearing 6.21 meters but narrowly missed breaking his own world record at 6.32 meters.

The event marks the beginning of the final segment of the global track and field season, leading up to the Diamond League Final and the new World Athletics Ultimate Championship.

Upcoming events include the highly anticipated 100m race in the Diamond League series. The road to the champions’ title in Brussels on Sept. 4 and 5 will feature three remaining regular-season meets, including the main event in Lausanne on Friday. Notable matchups include the men’s 800m race with Olympic medallists Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Marco Arop, and Djamel Sedjati. The women’s 200m race will showcase top athletes like Shericka Jackson, Letsile Tebogo, and Amy Hunt.

Fans can catch the action live or on replay through CBC Gem and CBC TV. The meet in Poland’s Silesian Stadium will host renowned track and field stars over a two-day competition, including standout athletes like Sarah Mitton, Jessica Schilder, and Chase Jackson in the field events.

Sunday’s events will feature Canada’s hammer throw champions Ethan Katzberg and Camryn Rogers, along with a competitive men’s 100m race. Notable athletes like Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Karsten Warholm will provide thrilling performances in their respective events.

The Diamond League Final in Brussels will determine the champions after a season-long points chase. The top performers in each event will compete for the Diamond Trophy and a substantial cash prize. The Ultimate Championship in Budapest will follow the Final, offering a lucrative $10 million prize pool and a chance for the world’s elite athletes to showcase their skills.

Canadian athletes like Sarah Mitton and Marco Arop are on track to secure their spots in the upcoming championships, while stars like Andre De Grasse and Camryn Rogers face tougher competition. The Ultimate Championship will feature a select group of top athletes competing for significant rewards.
