The 2026 inductees into the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame were honored on Thursday night, with notable figures such as former NBA player Jamaal Magloire, ex-Carleton Ravens men’s head coach Dave Smart, and Olympic flag-bearer Miranda Ayim joining the prestigious group.
Jamaal Magloire enjoyed a successful 12-season career in the NBA, making history as the first Canadian to play for the Toronto Raptors in 2011. Recognized as an all-star in 2004 while with the Memphis Grizzlies, Magloire later transitioned to coaching as an assistant with the Raptors during their championship-winning 2018-19 season. Currently, he holds the position of vice-president with the Scarborough Shooting Stars in the Canadian Elite Basketball League.
Dave Smart’s tenure as head coach of Carleton’s men’s basketball program was marked by unparalleled success, leading the Ravens to an impressive 13 U Sports championships.
Miranda Ayim, a prominent figure in Canadian basketball, captained the senior women’s national team and had the honor of being a co-flag-bearer alongside rugby sevens player Nathan Hirayama at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
The 2026 class announcement, made on July 2, also included the names of Michael Meeks, Anna Stammberger, Dan Meagher, and Teresa Kleindienst as players, along with coaches Peter (Doc) Ryan, official Janice Deakin, and builder Dr. Andrew Pipe. These individuals complete the distinguished 10-member class set to be formally inducted at a ceremony in St. Stephen, N.B.
