The union representing WestJet’s cabin crew has disclosed details of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline this week following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that the deal entails an over 18% salary increase spread over three years, along with a novel “duty period premium” to compensate for ground duties. Additionally, the agreement includes extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and other benefits.
Due to the looming strike by 4,400 flight attendants, all WestJet flights across a significant portion of Canada were suspended during the extended holiday weekend. However, a tentative deal was reached between the airline and the union early Monday, leading to a gradual resumption of WestJet’s operations.
Cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the proposed agreement in the upcoming weeks.
