The search for a 13-year-old boy who went missing while swimming off the coast of East Yorkshire has tragically ended with the discovery of a body.

Emergency services responded to reports of a boy in distress in the sea near the South Promenade area of Hornsea at around 6 pm on Tuesday.

Chief Superintendent Phil Booker of Humberside Police confirmed that the boy had encountered difficulties while swimming in the water.

An extensive search and rescue operation, involving HM Coastguard, Hornsea Inshore Rescue, the RNLI, and police, was launched to locate the missing boy.

Authorities have now confirmed that the child’s body has been found.

Ch Supt Booker expressed deep sadness over the outcome and extended condolences to the boy’s family and friends.

Footage and images from the scene depicted a lifeboat in the water and an HM Coastguard helicopter conducting aerial searches.
