A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck Tuscany, Italy, with its epicenter just four miles from the historic city of Pisa. The quake, which occurred at approximately 10:15 am local time, was felt across northern Tuscany, affecting the provinces of Lucca, Pisa, and Massa-Carrara.

Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported that the epicenter was near San Piero a Grado, about seven kilometers from Pisa, at a shallow depth of around eight kilometers. The relatively shallow depth of the earthquake led to its widespread impact across northern Tuscany.

Following the quake, a second tremor of 3.2 magnitude struck at 1:04 pm, with its epicenter approximately five kilometers from Pisa at a depth of 11 kilometers. Officials, including Tuscany regional governor Eugenio Giani and Bernard Dika, undersecretary to the presidency of the region, confirmed the seismic activity and noted precautionary evacuations in affected areas.

Firefighters evacuated three families from a building in San Giuliano Terme near Pisa due to structural instability caused by the earthquake. While no injuries or significant damage to buildings were reported, residents in Pisa took precautionary measures, gathering in the streets after the quake.

Court hearings at the local courthouse were temporarily suspended, and the city hall was evacuated as a safety measure. Rail services on several lines were also temporarily halted for infrastructure checks, but iconic landmarks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa and museums in Piazza dei Miracoli were unaffected and remained open to visitors.
