A woman who was jealous and controlling subjected her girlfriend to psychological and physical abuse, which tragically led to the girlfriend taking her own life shortly after reaching out to the police for help.
The relationship between Kathryn White and Claire Alex began in August 2021 on the dating app Tinder but turned tumultuous by July 2022. During an argument, White aggressively grabbed Ms. Alex by the neck, threatened self-harm, confiscated her phone, and physically assaulted her.
After enduring 11 months of torment, Claire finally confided in the authorities, expressing how she felt shattered and lost under White’s manipulation. Tragically, just four days after seeking help, Claire ended her own life.
White, residing in Mayfield Mews in Crewe, denied the allegations of controlling and coercive behavior but was found guilty after a trial. The court stated that White’s actions constituted a prolonged and consistent pattern of both psychological and physical abuse.
The prosecution highlighted instances where White threatened violence and physically assaulted Ms. Alex. The court was informed that White even resorted to physical aggression when a colleague innocently embraced Ms. Alex outside her workplace.
During the trial, White’s defense attorney, Rosemary Proctor, mentioned White’s struggles with mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and ADHD, as well as past traumatic experiences. Despite this, the judge criticized White for her lack of remorse, empathy, and attempts to manipulate testimonies during the trial.
Ultimately, the judge sentenced White to three years and six months in prison for her crimes. The court proceedings shed light on the devastating consequences of domestic abuse and the importance of seeking help and support in such situations.
