Weather experts are predicting thunderstorms to interrupt the ongoing heatwave in the UK, bringing relief from scorching temperatures. Parts of the country have been facing drought conditions with minimal rainfall in July, leading to concerns about water shortages.

Recent heatwaves have fueled wildfires in various regions, including Suffolk, Hampshire, and Berkshire, causing significant damage. However, a shift in weather patterns is expected, with forecasts indicating the likelihood of heavy rain and thunderstorms in certain areas. Meteorologists at Ventusky, in collaboration with Metdesk, are closely monitoring these developments.

The upcoming weather system, driven by a low-pressure area, is poised to bring heavy rain to the north and scattered showers to the south. Additionally, warmer and more humid conditions are anticipated in England and Wales, with temperatures potentially exceeding 30C. Thunderstorms are forecasted, with Northern Ireland, Cumbria, and the Northeast of England likely to experience stormy weather.

As the day progresses, the rain is expected to move southward, affecting regions like north Wales, the Northwest of England, and parts of the Midlands. Thunderstorms may persist in Cumbria and Scotland, while areas like Berkshire and Birmingham could also see rainfall. The Met Office has not issued any official weather warnings for thunderstorms or heavy rain at this time.

Chief Forecaster Chris Bulmer from the Met Office highlighted the expected weather change, mentioning the return of warmer conditions coupled with showers or thunderstorms in some areas. While southern regions may receive limited rainfall, northern areas, particularly Scotland, could experience heavy downpours.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued heat alerts for specific areas, indicating the potential dangers associated with the ongoing heatwave. Despite the recent extreme temperatures and heatwaves, weather maps for August 10 suggest a shift towards cooler and wetter conditions across the UK.

Significant portions of England are expected to receive rainfall, particularly in the North and Midlands, while Wales and southern regions may experience lighter showers. Temperatures are projected to be milder, ranging in the mid-10s in some areas.
