Temperatures are set to decrease tomorrow after a scorching heatwave today, with the possibility of heavy rain affecting some areas across the country, according to forecasts from the Met Office.
The south-east of England could experience temperatures reaching 35C this afternoon, marking the fourth heatwave of the year. However, the heat is not expected to be as widespread as in previous warm weather periods, with temperatures in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England ranging from the high-teens to low-20s.
Tomorrow is expected to bring cooler conditions across the board, with temperatures in the southern and south-eastern regions reaching the mid to high-20s. While conditions may still feel warm in the sunshine, most of the country will see temperatures dropping to typical levels for this time of year.
Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick mentioned, “The good news is, if you’re not a fan of the heat, that overall temperatures will come down into a slightly cooler day [tomorrow].”
There could be light showers in parts of England and Wales tomorrow, while the possibility of heavy rain is higher in northern parts of the UK, particularly in Scotland.
According to Ms. Criswick, “Perhaps the odd shower in the south but still very light, and not much rain associated with these at all. Once again, most of the showers will come across the north where they could still be heavy, with a few scattered across England and Wales.”
Met Office forecast maps indicate heavy showers affecting 29 counties on Thursday, all located in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
BBC Weather’s forecast suggests that some showers over Scotland could turn thundery tomorrow. It states, “Tomorrow, northern areas will have showers, these heavy and thundery across the north of Scotland. Further south, a band of cloud and local drizzle will push southeastwards, followed by sunshine.”
The forecast continues, “Sunshine for most in England and Wales on Friday, with scattered showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Sunny spells expected for most on Saturday, though isolated showers may occur in Scotland, mainly in the far north. Sunday will start mostly dry and sunny, but cloud cover is expected to increase later in the day, with a chance of light rain in some areas.”
