Three individuals, including a man and two children, were airlifted to hospitals after encountering difficulties while swimming at a Margate beach. The incident prompted an emergency response at Main Sands beach, with reports of swimmers struggling at the boating pool area. Witnesses mentioned that at least one child was rescued from the water before emergency services arrived.

The rescue operation involved various units such as paramedics, police, Margate RNLI, and coastguard teams, including a Coastguard rescue helicopter and a KSS air ambulance. The two children were airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London, while the man was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford for further treatment.

Kent Police confirmed the incident, stating that they were alerted to the situation at 4:36 pm and assisted in managing the area for air ambulance and coastguard helicopter landings. All three individuals involved were safely transported to hospitals.

HM Coastguard also responded to the medical incident, dispatching Margate and Herne Bay Coastguard Rescue Teams, a lifeboat from Margate RNLI, and an HM Coastguard helicopter to the scene. The coordinated effort resulted in all three individuals receiving medical attention at hospitals.

The Mirror’s “Save Lives For Sam” water safety campaign aims to address the rising drowning crisis in the UK by advocating for measures like mandatory water safety education in schools, a national awareness campaign, improved lifesaving equipment at high-risk water areas, the implementation of Sam’s Law, and the appointment of a dedicated Minister for Water Safety.
