Passengers of EasyJet expressed distress over being stranded at an airport without access to food and water. Dr. Ron Roberts, aged 70, criticized the budget airline for allegedly abandoning travelers at Montenegro’s Tivat Airport for over 24 hours. According to Dr. Roberts, the lack of assistance from EasyJet staff led to overcrowding, resulting in a passenger collapsing.
Scheduled to depart for London Luton at 12:40 the previous day, Dr. Roberts and other passengers found themselves in a state of “absolute chaos” as the flight delays persisted without proper communication or support from airport personnel.
After the airport closed, Dr. Roberts claimed that he and fellow passengers were instructed to find their own accommodations for the night, forcing them to sleep on the street due to the unavailability of free lodging in the area.
Despite returning to the airport when it reopened, Dr. Roberts and his companions are still stranded near departures with uncertainty about their flight arrangements.
To exacerbate the situation, hungry passengers were reportedly warned that they would not be readmitted to the airport if they purchased food from the nearby café. Dr. Roberts described the conditions as “dangerously unhealthy,” emphasizing the lack of concern for passengers’ well-being.
Allegations of EasyJet displaying a “complete contempt for passengers” were made by Dr. Roberts, claiming that the airline neglected their responsibilities towards the stranded individuals.
In response to the incident, an EasyJet spokesperson cited delays caused by a previous bird strike and subsequent air traffic control restrictions, expressing regret for the inconvenience faced by customers.
The Foreign Office confirmed they are liaising with local authorities regarding the airport situation, aiming to address the challenges encountered by stranded passengers effectively.
