A significant fire erupted on Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh yesterday, and firefighters are still actively working to extinguish the flames this morning. The fire, which started around 6:30 pm on Sunday near the Palace of Holyrood House, has drawn the response of four fire engines from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. An image captured from the nearby Scottish Parliament displays a large plume of smoke rising from the hill. This incident coincides with Scotland facing dry conditions, with extensive wildfires ongoing in the Cairngorms.

Arthur’s Seat, a location that previously suffered scorching in August last year, is once again the focal point of firefighting efforts following the recent blaze. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, mobilized promptly after receiving reports of the fire at 6:38 pm on Sunday, remains engaged in managing the situation. The authorities have confirmed no casualties thus far.

In response to the ongoing fire at Arthur’s Seat, the police have closed roads in the vicinity to facilitate the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s operations. Queens Drive, from the roundabout near Pollock Halls down to Dynamic Earth, is currently inaccessible, prompting drivers to seek alternative routes. The situation continues to evolve, and individuals are advised to avoid the area unless instructed otherwise.

Efforts to contain the wildfire in the Cairngorms National Park are also ongoing, with firefighters deployed in the Glenmore area for the fifth consecutive day. Specialized resources, including six fire engines, two all-terrain vehicles, a Wildfire Support Unit, and a water carrier, are engaged in firefighting operations. Significant progress has been made, but vigilance remains crucial as wildfires can escalate rapidly. The affected areas remain closed to visitors, with road closures in effect to ensure public safety.
