The family of Henry Nowak, a murdered teenager, has released a statement following the imprisonment of Kiran Kaur for removing the knife used in the killing of the 18-year-old by her son, Vickrum Digwa. Kaur was sentenced to three years in jail by Southampton Crown Court for aiding an offender by taking the weapon to their family home on the night of the incident on December 3, 2025.
Despite the sentencing, Henry’s family expressed their ongoing disappointment. They emphasized their commitment to seeking justice for Henry and urged for thorough investigations to uncover the complete truth about the events of last December. They also called on the government to implement necessary changes in honor of their son.
Vickrum Digwa, aged 23, was previously sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 21 years for the murder of Henry, a finance student at the University of Southampton. Digwa had falsely accused Henry of racial abuse.
During the trial, it was revealed that the knife, identified as the murder weapon through CCTV analysis, was found about a week after the crime. Prosecutor Nicholas Lobbenberg KC highlighted the significance of Kaur’s actions in hindering the police investigation by removing the weapon while officers were arriving at the scene.
In sentencing Kaur, Judge William Mousley KC criticized her for failing to challenge her son’s actions and instead aiding in concealing the nature of the weapon. Kaur’s defense attorney, Mark Watson, argued that her actions were impulsive rather than premeditated, emphasizing her positive character before the incident.
Kaur, who is a mother of five, was described as a respected member of her family and community. Despite her emotional state during the court proceedings, she received a jail sentence. The court mentioned a forthcoming inquest into Henry’s death scheduled to take place in Winchester the following year.
