NATO responded swiftly as Russian spy plane flies over Baltic Sea with transponder off

Fighter jets from Poland were deployed to intercept a Russian Il-20 aircraft that was flying over the Baltic Sea without a filed flight plan and with its transponder turned off, according to the Polish armed forces. The reconnaissance mission of the plane was successfully intercepted by the on-duty Air Force fighters, visually identified, and escorted away without violating Polish airspace.

The armed forces affirmed their continuous readiness to counter threats and safeguard the sovereignty of Polish airspace. A spokesperson from the Polish Operational Command of the Armed Forces emphasized that such interceptions are a standard procedure to monitor objects not complying with international aviation regulations, ensuring ongoing airspace safety.

Securing Polish skies is a daily mission for the dedicated soldiers of Wojsko Polskie, who are committed to protecting the country by remaining vigilant against potential threats and defending the integrity of Polish airspace.
