An Uber driver in Leicester has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for raping a passenger at knifepoint. The driver, Adam Daley, 33, approached the victim and her friend outside a bar in Leicester city center on December 29. He offered to drive them home through the Uber app. After dropping off one of the women, Daley took the victim, in her 20s, to a secluded area.
During the ride, Daley made inappropriate comments and then stopped, pretending to need a restroom break. He then threatened the woman with a knife, forced her into the front seat, and sexually assaulted her. The victim managed to call 999 after the incident, leading the police to track down Daley using CCTV and ANPR cameras.
Daley was apprehended by the police as he tried to destroy evidence in his car. He was found guilty of rape, sexual assault, possession of a weapon, and making threats. In addition to the rape case, Daley admitted to possessing indecent images of a child found on his phone.
Despite DNA evidence linking the victim to Daley, he denied the charges, claiming the DNA transfer occurred innocently. However, investigators discovered that Daley had circled back past the victim multiple times after the assault. Authorities suspect Daley may have assaulted other women while working as an Uber driver.
Detective Constable Matt Smith praised the victim for her quick response to contact the police after the assault. He encouraged any potential victims to come forward and report any similar incidents. Leicestershire Police urge victims of sexual offenses to seek support and report any incidents for investigation.
