Princess Margaret’s grandson, Samuel Chatto, has recently announced his engagement to his longtime partner, the artist Eleanor Ekserdjian. Samuel revealed that he proposed with a unique porcelain ring that he crafted himself. The King has been informed of the news and is reportedly thrilled for the couple, who are set to get married next spring.

Samuel, known as Sam, aged 29, is the son of Lady Sarah Chatto and her husband, Daniel Chatto. He took to Instagram to share the joyous news, expressing his happiness at the engagement. Sam and his fiancée, Eleanor, also known as Ellie, both 29 years old, reside together in London. Their families, including Lady Sarah Chatto, Daniel Chatto, Eleanor’s parents, Professor David Ekserdjian, and Susan Moore, are said to be overjoyed by the announcement.

Sam’s artistic talent comes from his father, Daniel Chatto, a former actor turned renowned painter, who married Lady Sarah Chatto in 1994. Samuel, who comes from a rich artistic background, mentioned his fondness for creating objects and working with clay since his school days.

In 2024, Samuel received special permission to invite Eleanor to spend Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham. This break in tradition allowed them to celebrate the holiday together, unlike previous royal couples who had to wait until after marriage.

Ranked 30th in line to the throne and without any official royal titles or duties, Samuel and Eleanor, who met while studying at the University of Edinburgh, have been in a relationship since 2021. Samuel, the eldest of Princess Margaret’s grandchildren, was born in London and educated at Eton College before pursuing a degree in the history of art at the University of Edinburgh.
