A man from the UK has disappeared in Tokyo after participating in a poker game in the city’s ‘red-light’ area. Alistair Roberts, hailing from Glasgow, left the game in the early hours of Saturday and has not been in contact since then. His sudden vanishing, at 37 years old, is considered unusual by his family and friends, sparking concerns about his well-being.
The last sighting of Alistair was captured on a live camera feed of Kabukicho, a well-known red-light district dubbed the ‘sleepless town’. He was seen exiting a poker venue at 4:30 am on Saturday before disappearing. Alistair had recently returned to Tokyo to reunite with his fiancée, with the last communication being at 3 am as reported by his friend Charles Hatch.
Since then, Alistair’s phone has been inactive, making it impossible to reach him. A report about his disappearance has been lodged with the Tokyo police, who have confirmed he is not under their custody. Efforts have been made to contact the UK embassy, and his family in the UK is being informed of the situation.
Locals, expatriates, and tourists are urged to provide any information they may have regarding Alistair’s whereabouts. Charles Hatch mentioned, “The authorities are investigating, but given his recent stable state, there are suspicions that he may have chosen to disappear voluntarily, which is highly unusual considering his recent reunion with his fiancée.”
Despite assumptions that he might be in police custody, no confirmation has been provided. Alistair’s familiarity with the Kabukicho region makes it improbable that he followed any suspicious individuals.
