Dayana managed to keep her baby alive by constantly monitoring his breathing and conserving energy to call out only when she heard signs of rescue.
Rescue workers successfully extracted little Juan David from the debris, unharmed, and reunited him with his father, Gerson. Dayana was rescued about 90 minutes later, sustaining leg injuries but expressing that her son kept her motivated to stay alert and alive throughout the ordeal.
The death toll from the earthquakes in Venezuela has tragically risen to 1,450, with over 3,150 individuals injured. The number of missing persons stands at 46,600, and the United Nations estimates economic losses between $4.7 billion and $8.7 billion. International search-and-rescue teams are actively engaged in the region amid ongoing aftershocks.
