The UK is bracing for another potential heatwave, with forecasts indicating a possible record-breaking high temperature. According to the Met Office, this week is expected to be pleasant for most regions, with temperatures likely to range in the low to mid-20s. Last week’s heatwave set a new June temperature record at 37.7C.
The GFS weather model suggests that the UK could see temperatures soaring beyond the current record of 40.3C in the coming days, possibly reaching 41C. Projections for next Monday show temperatures reaching highs of 35C to 36C in southern, eastern, and central England, with temperatures in the low 30s as far north as Yorkshire and South Wales.
By next Tuesday, temperatures could reach unprecedented levels, with highs of 40C and 41C expected from Yorkshire to London and across the eastern parts of the country. The following day, temperatures are forecasted to peak at 35C in the southeast before cooling off. Anomalies in temperature maps indicate a significant deviation from the seasonal average, with the UK expected to experience exceptionally high temperatures.
The GFS model suggests that up to 17 counties in England could see temperatures exceeding 40C. The Met Office has noted an increasing likelihood of a return to heatwave conditions next week, although extreme high temperatures similar to the previous week are currently deemed unlikely.
Met Office forecaster Tony Wisson mentioned that temperatures could climb into the high 20s and potentially reach 30C in parts of southeast England over the weekend. While a return to heatwave conditions is anticipated in some areas, the chances of extreme heat levels or high humidity remain low for now.
