PlayStation has officially announced that it will be removing a significant number of purchased films from user accounts in the coming months. A “legal notice” message has been sent to users, explaining that due to licensing regulations, the movies will be deleted from accounts, rendering them inaccessible for viewing.
Users of PlayStation who own the latest devices, the PS4 and PS5, have the option to stream, rent, or buy movies. Previously, this was done directly through the PlayStation store, but now it is facilitated through the Sony Pictures Core app. Affected users have been informed that a total of 551 movies will be removed starting from September 1.
Among the films being removed are popular titles such as Terminator 2, Total Recall, Shaun The Sheep Movie – Farmageddon, Alan Partridge, The Evil Dead, Brighton Rock, The Deer Hunter, and Paddington. Even if users have purchased these movies, they will no longer have access to them.
According to the message sent by PlayStation, starting from September 1, 2026, content from Studio Canal will no longer be accessible due to content licensing agreements and will be deleted from users’ video libraries. The message concluded with a simple “Thank you, PlayStation Store” and a comprehensive list of the 550 affected films.
