OAP Roger Clarke, a convicted drugs mule, has recently been released from prison in Portugal and has traveled to the Costa Blanca in Spain for a getaway. Clarke, 79, was imprisoned for his involvement in trafficking £1 million worth of cocaine from the Caribbean, alongside his late wife, Susan. After Susan’s passing from cancer in a Lisbon prison cell, Clarke was extradited back to the UK in 2021.
During a period of day release in 2024, Clarke expressed his discontent with his prolonged incarceration, believing he should have been released earlier. This led to his transfer from an open prison to a high-security facility after upsetting prison authorities. However, recent reports indicate that Clarke is now enjoying his freedom in Spain, particularly in Rojales, Alicante, where he resided with Susan in the past.
Clarke’s history includes being arrested in 2018 on a cruise ship in Lisbon for smuggling cocaine and facing legal consequences with his wife in multiple countries for drug-related activities. Despite his claims of innocence and feeling unfairly sentenced, Clarke acknowledges his responsibility in the drug smuggling operation that landed him in prison.
Now residing in Sittingbourne, Kent, and granted day release from HMP Standford Hill, Clarke reflects on his past actions and the impact on his life, especially after losing his wife and facing health challenges. He seeks reconciliation with his estranged family and regrets the consequences of his criminal past.
