A former nursery worker convicted of abusing multiple infants while under the influence of drugs in the UK has been released from prison and is now residing abroad, confirmed Polish authorities. Roksana Lecka, aged 23, received an eight-year jail term last year for mistreating children as young as ten months old at two nurseries in west London. She was transferred to Poland in February as part of the Early Removal Scheme, leading to her return to her home country without formal extradition procedures between the UK and Poland.

Polish officials disclosed that Lecka’s arrival did not align with established international cooperation protocols, hindering their ability to apprehend her upon entry due to inadequate documentation and absence of relevant criminal database entries. Despite landing in Warsaw on February 5, Lecka’s current location remains undisclosed. Her reprehensible actions, which included physically assaulting a toddler over a prolonged period, occurred between 2023 and 2024.

Following her deportation, Lecka, now barred from re-entering the UK, was serving her sentence for child cruelty offenses. Her sentencing judge described the acts as sadistic, involving various forms of physical abuse towards the children under her care. Lecka’s capture ensued after concerned parents and staff noticed injuries on the children, leading to the discovery of incriminating CCTV footage of her maltreatment.

Parents of the victims expressed anguish and mistrust towards Lecka, emphasizing the emotional toll and disappointment upon her early release. Concerns raised included doubts regarding her sentence completion and the perceived lack of deterrence for future offenders. Efforts by officials to inform affected parties about Lecka’s release conditions were met with calls for accountability and reassurance from the local community.

Despite assurances from the Home Office that Polish authorities were notified of Lecka’s convictions for protective measures, reports suggest challenges in monitoring her activities and communicating her criminal history to childcare facilities in Poland. The Ministry of Justice condemned Lecka’s actions as abhorrent, emphasizing the government’s commitment to deporting foreign offenders swiftly to uphold public safety.
