Prince William has a net worth of £1.2 billion through the Duchy of Cornwall, making him wealthier than the King. Since becoming the Prince of Wales, William has paid over £20 million in taxes.

Recent accounts published for the Sovereign Grant revealed details about the royal household’s funding, as well as the personal fortunes of the King and Prince William from the Duchy of Lancaster and Duchy of Cornwall. Prince William inherited these assets upon becoming the Prince of Wales.

The figures unveiled for the first time that Prince William’s net worth via the Duchy is £1.2 billion, surpassing his father’s wealth. In the latest Duchy accounts, it was disclosed that the prince received a private income of £21.6 million in 2025-26.

Contrastingly, the Sunday Times Rich List listed the King with a personal fortune of £640 million, showing an increase of £30 million from the previous year. In an effort to enhance transparency regarding the royal family’s funding, both the King and Prince William have disclosed their private tax payments. Records indicate that William paid £7.76 million in income and capital gains tax in 2024-25, and £8.34 million in 2023-24.

Furthermore, it was revealed that William has opted to no longer personally benefit from the contentious £1.5 million annual rent generated by the vacant Dartmoor Prison. Instead, he has requested that this sum be redirected from his multimillion-pound income as heir to the throne from the Duchy of Cornwall towards revitalizing the local community.

The duchy had previously signed a £37 million deal in 2022 to lease Dartmoor Prison to the Ministry of Justice for £1.5 million annually over 25 years. However, the prison has been vacant since July 2024 due to high levels of radon gas detected in the prisoners’ accommodation.

A community-led regeneration fund will be initiated next year to provide social, economic, and environmental benefits to Princetown, the rural community adjacent to the prison. Prince William’s private secretary, Ian Patrick, emphasized the importance of supporting the community amid the closure of the prison.

As the 25th Duke of Cornwall, William is entitled to the annual profits from the billion-pound Duchy landed estate spanning 51,800 hectares across 19 counties. Meanwhile, Kensington Palace reported an increase in staff members to 74 from 68 in William and Kate’s household. Diversity figures revealed a rise in the representation of ethnic minorities among staff members.
