Forecasters predict temperatures as high as 41C in Italy’s Florence and Po Valley regions, setting the stage for the peak of the heatwave. The health ministry has issued alerts for 17 cities, including Florence, Milan, Rome, Turin, and Verona, cautioning that the heatwave could worsen in the coming days.
Across Europe, a severe heatwave is gripping the continent, with record-breaking temperatures and significant impacts in multiple countries. France has reported 48 drowning deaths due to the extreme conditions, while tragic incidents involving children have occurred in vehicles. In Spain, over 200 fatalities have been linked to the scorching weather, highlighting the deadly consequences of the heatwave.
Meanwhile, the UK experienced its hottest June day on record, with temperatures reaching 36.1C in Gosport, Hampshire. Forecasts suggest that the record may be broken again with temperatures expected to soar to 38C in certain areas.
