“First Gay Surrogate Parent & Partner Accused of Rape & Grooming”

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, aged 57, and his partner Scott Drewitt-Barlow, aged 32, who are known as Britain’s first gay surrogate parent and currently facing multiple charges, have been accused of rape and grooming activities involving young men for potential sexual exploitation. The couple appeared before the Chelmsford Crown Court where they did not enter pleas and are now scheduled for trial starting January 18, 2027, with an estimated duration of eight to 10 weeks.

Prosecutors have leveled serious allegations against the duo, residents of Danbury, Essex, including charges of rape, sexual assault, and human trafficking for sexual exploitation. Barrie and Scott Drewitt-Barlow, who are prominent figures with a lavish lifestyle and have been featured in various documentaries and reality TV shows, were remanded in custody until their next hearing on September 7, where they are expected to enter pleas.

According to Prosecutor Serena Berry at an earlier hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court, the couple has allegedly targeted and groomed young males, inviting them to their residence and other locations. Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, who made history as Britain’s first gay surrogate parent in 1999, faces charges of sexual assault, rape of an adult male, and facilitating travel for exploitation. Similarly, Scott Drewitt-Barlow faces charges related to sexual assault, rape, and exploitation facilitation.

Recently, Essex Police disclosed additional charges against the pair. Barrie Drewitt-Barlow faces 15 more alleged offenses, including sexual activity with a child, paying for sexual services from a child, rape, sexual assault, and causing sexual activity without consent. On the other hand, Scott Drewitt-Barlow has been charged with two more counts of rape and inciting sexual activity.
