Parts of England are set to experience thunderstorms with frequent lightning strikes and heavy rainfall affecting various regions.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms, effective from this afternoon until 9 pm.
According to the Met Office forecast, moving thunderstorms will bring lightning, strong winds, torrential rain, and possible hail to the area.
While the storms are expected to move quickly, there is a risk of localized flooding due to intense rainfall in some areas, with 20-25 mm possible in short periods during the most active storms.
The primary impacts are anticipated from lightning strikes causing power disruptions, challenging driving conditions in heavy rain, and potential damage to structures from strong winds or hail.
In addition to the thunderstorm warning, an amber alert for extreme heat is also in effect, covering parts of East of England, London, South East England, and South West England.
The Met Office warns of possible building damage from lightning or hail and advises of potential travel disruptions due to spray, standing water, or hail impacting driving conditions.
Train services may experience delays, and short-term power outages are also possible. Residents are urged to assess the risk of flash flooding to their properties and take necessary precautions.
The Met Office recommends seeking shelter indoors if thunder is heard, avoiding trees or tall structures that might attract lightning, and being prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.
