Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly been extended an offer to stay in royal accommodations during their upcoming visit to the UK. The couple, now residing in Montecito, California, are planning a brief return to the UK next month.
Previously, it was reported that Harry declined an offer to stay at Buckingham Palace due to security concerns. The specific royal residence offered to them for their upcoming stay remains undisclosed as they prepare for their first family trip to the UK in four years.
Assurances have been made to Harry regarding the security measures that will be in place during their visit. The Sussexes, accompanied by their children Archie and Lilibet, have not yet responded to the offer according to reports from the BBC.
Their children last saw their grandfather, the King, during Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. Whether the King will meet his youngest grandchildren during their upcoming stay is currently unknown.
The couple’s return to the UK is in preparation for the one-year countdown celebrations leading up to the next year’s Invictus Games in Birmingham. Harry, who last met with Charles in September after a 19-month gap, expressed hopes for reconciliation with his family.
Having stepped down from royal duties in 2020, Harry has been vocal about his strained relationship with the royal family in various public appearances and media interviews. Allegations and controversies have arisen, including claims of tension with Charles, disagreements with the King, and ongoing estrangement from his brother William.
The Invictus Games, a significant sporting event for wounded service personnel and veterans, is scheduled to take place in Birmingham from July 10-17 next year. The Mirror has reached out to both the Palace and the Sussexes for comments.
