A tragic incident unfolded at a World Cup viewing party as a young child lost his life in what authorities suspect to be an accidental drowning. The victim, Taylor Thach, an 8-year-old, became unresponsive during the gathering in California to watch the World Cup.
Emergency services were summoned to the location around 7:30 pm on June 12, where Taylor was discovered. Despite efforts to revive him on-site, he was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital. Taylor met his unfortunate fate at a friend’s residence in El Segundo, California, after being taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Centre.
Eric Atkinson, an Investigations Lieutenant at El Segundo Police Department, indicated that all indications pointed towards accidental drowning, pending an autopsy. Authorities are actively obtaining statements from attendees of the World Cup party.
Following the tragedy, the local community initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist Taylor’s grieving family. The fundraising goal of $5,000 was exceeded significantly, with over $83,000 raised within four days, with the entirety of the donations directed to Taylor’s mother Sokunthea, father Somnang, and brother Jordan Thach.
Taylor is remembered affectionately for his compassionate nature and amiable demeanor. A neighbor who organized the fundraiser described Taylor as a cherished student at Center Street School, known for his warm-heartedness and friendliness. The community is struggling to comprehend the loss and has rallied together to support the Thach family during this challenging period.
Contributions, regardless of the amount, are welcomed to aid the family with immediate expenses and provide them the time and support necessary to mourn and honor Taylor’s memory. Sharing the fundraiser page is also encouraged to keep Taylor’s legacy alive and ensure he is never forgotten.
