Two adolescents are facing murder charges following the death of a 21-year-old individual in a tragic incident at a park. The victim, identified as Radwan Shakur from Wembley, north-west London, was discovered with stab wounds at Central Park in Chelmsford, according to Essex Police. Despite immediate assistance from first responders after the incident was reported around 7pm on Friday, Mr. Shakur passed away at the scene.

Authorities disclosed that an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, whose identities are protected by law, have been accused of the murder. Additionally, Romeo Mfinda, 18, residing in Widford Chase, Chelmsford, and a 17-year-old male from the same area, have been charged with possession with intent to distribute cannabis and possessing a knife in a public setting. Both appeared before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

During his court appearance, Mfinda confirmed his personal information but did not enter a plea and was not granted bail. He is set to appear before Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday. The 17-year-old suspect, appearing separately before magistrates, was remanded in youth detention accommodation pending a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court.

In a statement conveyed through law enforcement, the family of Mr. Shakur described him as a beloved individual with a warm personality, cherished by his relatives and acquaintances. They expressed profound sorrow over his passing, highlighting his bright smile and aspirations for the future, including plans for university.

Following the initial arrests of three teenagers on Friday on suspicion of murder, the 18-year-old suspect was released on bail after questioning, while the 14-year-old was released pending further investigation. Subsequent investigations over the weekend led to the apprehension of another 18-year-old suspect on Sunday afternoon.

Detective Inspector Lydia George, overseeing the inquiry, emphasized the gravity of the incident that occurred in a bustling public park, causing distress within the Chelmsford community. She extended sympathies to Mr. Shakur’s family and urged the public and media to respect their privacy during this difficult time. The investigation, which has made headway through CCTV footage examination, witness interviews, and forensic analysis, is ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with pertinent information to come forward through a dedicated public portal.
