A devastated mother and father expressed their profound grief after their young son tragically drowned during a recent severe heatwave. Michael Swift and Suzie Gough have come forward to caution families against open water activities following the untimely death of their 11-year-old son, Mackenzie.

In an emotional interview with the Mirror, the heartbroken parents revealed their shock that Mackenzie, affectionately known as ‘Kenzie,’ ventured to a nearby river during the scorching heatwave, despite never showing interest in such activities before. Ignoring his inability to swim, Mackenzie entered the water at ‘Pebble Beach,’ shedding his clothes and shoes before the tragic incident occurred.

Michael, 46, and Suzie, 48, from Mexborough in South Yorkshire, are now advocating for water safety awareness, emphasizing the importance of avoiding open water to prevent similar tragedies. Their plea comes in support of the Mirror’s ‘Save Lives for Sam’ campaign, aiming to prevent further accidents during the upcoming summer season.

Recalling Mackenzie’s vibrant personality and the joy he brought to their lives, Michael shared the heartbreaking experience of identifying his son’s lifeless body. The family is still reeling from the loss as they navigate through the painful aftermath of the incident. The community has rallied around them, offering support and assistance during this trying time.

As the family continues to mourn Mackenzie’s passing, they strive to raise awareness about water safety to prevent more families from enduring the same heartbreak. Their story serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers lurking in seemingly tranquil waters, urging caution and vigilance to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
