Britons are bracing for heavy rainfall as 18 regions remain on high alert due to a 250-mile expanse of rain making its way across the nation. Despite the anticipation of soaring temperatures in the coming days following a period of damp and cool weather, more inclement conditions are on the horizon with significant rainfall expected to strike the country by Tuesday.

The movement of low-pressure systems from the Atlantic is causing unsettled weather patterns and an influx of rain midweek. BBC weather forecaster Jennifer Bartram noted that while winds are diminishing gradually from Monday to Tuesday, a new cluster of weather fronts is approaching, with one system likely to bring a substantial downpour. Showers and brisk winds are forecasted for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland on Tuesday morning, followed by heavier rain moving across southwest England, Wales, and the Midlands in the afternoon, potentially reaching temperatures of 24°C in the sunny southern regions.

According to the Met Office’s map, the most intense rainfall is projected for Tuesday afternoon and evening, affecting primarily the Midlands, southwest regions, parts of Wales, and Scotland, with hourly precipitation reaching up to 8mm before 7pm. In northern Scotland, the rate of rainfall could peak at 32mm per hour during the same period.

The Met Office’s Monday forecast indicates a dry day with sunny intervals, though showers may develop in the southern regions, possibly with thunder. The west and north are expected to see thickening clouds with evening rainfall, accompanied by light to moderate winds and temperatures around average values.

Looking ahead to Tuesday through Thursday, the forecast suggests cloudy skies in the west and north with intermittent rain, potentially heavy in some areas, interspersed with brighter intervals. Showers are likely to become more prevalent later, especially in the north, while the southeast is expected to experience relatively warm conditions compared to elsewhere.
