Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina are gearing up to start the World Cup’s Group B matches today amidst ongoing controversies surrounding the event. The matches have seen notably low attendance due to a ticketing dispute.

The teams are scheduled to kick off at 3pm at Toronto Stadium in Toronto, Canada, marking the second home match of the cup following Mexico’s opening game. Despite a global audience tuning in for the opening ceremony, Mexico’s Azteca stadium witnessed significant empty seats during the initial matches.

The sight of numerous vacant seats at the stadium was a blow to FIFA, which has faced criticism over its ticket pricing strategies. The organization introduced variable pricing for the first time in World Cup history, leading to escalated ticket costs that put the event out of reach for many fans.

Although ticket prices were later reduced and more tickets made available, around 180,000 tickets remained unsold on official FIFA resale platforms just before the tournament began. Additionally, 15,000 group-stage tickets were still up for grabs on the FIFA website.

In a bid to enhance their chances at the competition, the US team, coached by Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, is set to face Paraguay later. Pochettino emphasized the need for the players to approach the game with a carefree and confident mindset.

As the anticipation builds for England’s upcoming match against Croatia, player Jude Bellingham reflected on the team’s performance in the Euros 2024, acknowledging areas for improvement both on and off the field.

The recent South Korea vs Czechia match at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico, saw nearly full attendance, with FIFA reporting an official count of 44,985 spectators at the stadium. However, concerns arose regarding the visible empty spaces within the venue and the clarity of the attendance figures.

Bosnia and Herzegovina are poised to kick off the World Cup action in Group B today, facing Canada in what promises to be an exciting match on Bosnian soil. The game has garnered significant interest, with one fan traveling to Canada at considerable expense to witness the action firsthand.

While the World Cup commenced with a grand opening ceremony and thrilling matches, the late-night coverage was dominated by scenes of unrest as police clashed with protesters outside the stadium in Mexico City. Demonstrators voiced discontent over the event overshadowing pressing social issues in the country.

As Canada readies itself for its own opening ceremony, featuring renowned artists like Michael Buble, Alessia Cara, and Alanis Morisette, organizers remain vigilant to prevent any disruptions similar to those witnessed during Mexico’s inaugural match.

With high stakes and expectations on the line, both Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be aiming for a strong start in Group B before facing tough opponents in the subsequent matches.
