A tragic incident unfolded as young Bobby Bloomfield was fatally hit by a car after being pursued off private premises, revealed a court session.
In connection to the incident, a 15-year-old boy, whose identity is protected by law, and William Lunnon, aged 43, were placed in custody on murder charges after their appearance in Chelmsford magistrates court. Bobby, a student at Shenfield High School, succumbed to his injuries in hospital following a distressing encounter in Pilgrims Hatch, Essex, on Sunday evening.
According to Prosecutor Rohini Majumdar’s account in court, the victim and his companions were present on private land when Lunnon instructed them to vacate the area. Allegedly, the boys fled the scene, only to be pursued by the two accused individuals in a vehicle.
During the court proceedings, the 15-year-old defendant appeared in a quarter-zip jumper and jeans, uttering words solely to confirm personal details and acknowledge the matter’s referral to crown court. Meanwhile, Lunnon, attired in a grey prison tracksuit, confirmed his personal information and is set to join the 15-year-old at Chelmsford Crown Court for an initial hearing on Friday.
The authorities are currently interrogating four other individuals – two men aged 65 and 54, and two women aged 65 and 45 – all residents of Pilgrims Hatch. These individuals were apprehended on Tuesday and remain in custody on suspicion of obstructing justice.
Essex Police’s Serious Crime Directorate officers are meticulously piecing together details surrounding the incident. Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood stated, “This investigation remains intricate, and we have achieved substantial progress, including arrests and charges.
“Our primary focus is to unveil the complete circumstances and extend support to Bobby’s grieving family, who have endured an indescribable loss. I urge anyone with relevant information to step forward.
“Even the smallest detail could contribute significantly to our understanding of the events. Should you have been in the vicinity at the time or possess information aiding our inquiry, please share it through the public portal.”
In a poignant statement issued on Tuesday, Bobby’s family expressed their profound grief: “Losing a child is a nightmare for any parent. We are currently living this nightmare, and no words can convey our emotions. Bobby brought joy and vitality into our lives, and that light is now extinguished. The void left by his absence can never be filled.”
Comedian Josh James, Bobby’s cousin, shared a heartfelt tribute online, accompanied by shared memories captured in photos. He penned, “Our beloved cousin Bobby. We will forever cherish and miss you.” In another message, he added, “Farewells are not eternal. They do not signify the end. They simply indicate my longing until we reunite.”
