Three children and an adult lost their lives in a tragic incident where a car collided with a group of cyclists in a rural area of the Netherlands. The casualties occurred during a school trip near Vogelwaarde village, close to the Belgian border. Authorities in the Netherlands reported that a 19-year-old man was detained by the police for investigation, although it was not disclosed if he was the driver of the vehicle.
At the scene, two children and an adult succumbed to their injuries, while four children were transported to hospitals in the Netherlands and Belgium with severe conditions. Sadly, one of the injured children passed away at a hospital in Rotterdam later that evening, according to a statement from the Zeeland Security Region organization.
The victims involved in the crash were part of a group comprising 14 schoolchildren and two supervisors from an elementary school in Axel. An investigation by law enforcement is currently underway to determine the cause of the collision on a provincial road situated amidst farmland near Vogelwaarde, approximately 200 kilometers (125 miles) to the south of Amsterdam.
